Installation of the Lightweight Carbon Fiber Barrel for the M&P 15-22

The Lightweight Carbon Fiber tension barrel sets the standard for what a lightweight barrel should be. It features a sleeve that creates tension on the barrel itself.

Our SureStrike Firing Pin and Exact Edge Extractor are included.

Tools Needed

  • Barrel Nut Wrench (included with barrel)
  • 15/16" open end wrench, or adjustable wrench of same size
  • A barrel vise

Notes

  • Do not clamp the receiver in a vise. It is a plastic part and will break easily.
  • Never place any Volquartsen Carbon Fiber Barrel in a barrel vise, the carbon fiber barrel will be damaged.

Disassembly

M&P Barrel - Remove Cap

Step 1

Separate the upper and lower receiver halves of your rifle. Remove the bolt and charging handle from the upper receiver. See your rifle's owner's manual for further details.

Remove the plastic end cap from the end of the handguard. It will not be reused.

M&P Barrel - Barrel Vise

Step 2

Slide the barrel nut wrench over the barrel and engage it with the barrel nut deep in the handguard.

Secure the barrel in the barrel vise.

Use the wrench to remove the barrel nut. The threaded section is very long, don't give up!

M&P Barrel - Factory Barrel Out

Step 3

Remove the barrel from the barrel vise and remove the barrel nut wrench.

Slide the barrel out through the rear of the receiver.

At this point the handguard will be loose, but does not need to be removed.

Assembly

M&P Barrel - New Barrel In

Step 1

Slide the new barrel into the rear of the receiver.

Do not secure your Volquartsen Carbon Fiber Barrel in the barrel vise.

M&P Barrel - Barrel Nut Tool

Step 2

Engage the barrel nut in the barrel nut wrench then slide them over the barrel and thread on the barrel nut by hand.

To tighten, hold the upper receiver at the base of the handguard by hand and use your wrench to snug up the barrel nut wrench. Absolutely do not clamp the barrel or receiver in any type of vise.

It may be useful to have a friend hold the receiver while you tighten the barrel nut. The barrel nut does not need to be extremely tight, and does not need as much torque as was required to remove the factory barrel.

Reinstall the charging handle and bolt, then join the two receiver halves together.

Perform a function check and enjoy your new barrel!
